Since the time of the pyramids, man has been building great temples of worship. From the Mayans to the Egyptians to the builders of the great European cathedrals, humankind has sought to create sanctuaries from which to commune with God. Religious institutions hold a special place in the history of Fortunato. They represent the ability to help modern men and women meet their spiritual needs in peace, comfort and splendor.

ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE BOHEMIA, LONG ISLAND

St. Bernard’s
A landmark structure in the community, St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church towers over the neighborhood it serves. The interior ceiling of the church was designed with acoustical “clouds” to direct sound outward toward the congregation.

St. Cyril’s
Fortunato was retained to create an entirely new parish center for the community of Deer Park on Long Island. The completed project includes the church, shown here, the adjoining rectory, convent and elementary school. The church interior ceiling (above) features a “barrel vault” construction, an uncommon technique requiring a great deal of skill and patience.
